Public Art Display

ILM provided fifteen backlit portrait light boxes for Atlanta photographer Michael R. Reese.  The light boxes are currently being displayed at The Aviation Community Cultural Center in Atlanta, GA.  The ACCC is a 16,000 square foot facility located on the grounds of Fulton County Airport.  The community center is designed to be a local gathering place.  It’s managed by the Fulton County Department of Arts & Culture.  Their goal is to support careers in aviation, provide educational resources and display historical and contemporary flight related exhibits.  Their current installation is titled “A Force Proportional to Their Masses.”  The imagery and the themes are aviation, overcoming gravity to achieve flight as a metaphor for the Civil Rights movement, inspiring youth to careers in aviation, and to promote neighborhood histories of the surrounding areas.

Mr. Reese chose to work with ILM because we could provide a custom solution that would fit with his vision.  ILM manufactured custom backlit light boxes to display his photography.  The light boxes were 4″ deep and populated with LED’s to create bright even color for this fine art application.  The panels were provided by the photographer and held in place with a thin removable retainer.  The installation has been a great success and very well received in the community.  Michael R. Reese received his Bachelor of Fine Art in Photography from The Atlanta College of Art in 1996.  His work has been exhibited in several group and solo exhibitions in venues such as Southwest Arts Center; International Center for Photography in NY; Dalton Gallery, Agnes Scott College; and the Art Festival of Atlanta.
